A year of different needs

A school year begins. Winter arrives. A pantry needs replenishing. Neighbors Helping Neighbors connects these familiar moments with practical ways to help people nearby and across the city.

Learning and opportunity

The work includes backpacks filled with school supplies, scholarships and mentoring, and support for the Brotherhood Synagogue’s Project Cicero book drive. Each effort helps turn a neighbor’s contribution into something a child can use.

Food, warmth and companionship

Support for St. George’s Common Table, pantry donations, clothing for shelter guests and assistance to homebound neighbors bring care into everyday life. The relationships behind these projects matter as much as any individual collection.

A springtime gesture

In April 2014, the Gramercy Park Block Association thanked Board Member Kathleen Scupp for assembling Easter baskets for children in need through Neighbors Helping Neighbors. The photographs preserve two of the baskets prepared for this charitable project.

The holidays and beyond

The record also includes Epiphany Church’s Adopt a Family program, the toy drive at Paddy Maguire’s Ale House and community playground cleanups. They show the range of ways a neighborhood can take care of people and shared places.
