In September 2022, a new Citi Bike station on Gramercy Park North brought a wave of calls and emails to the Gramercy Park Block Association. Residents were concerned about its location near the East 21st Street and Lexington Avenue intersection.
In its letter, the Block Association said the installation had taken place without community input or advance notification. It linked the siting question to the landmarked surroundings and traffic concerns it had been raising with the Department of Transportation for years.
The Block Association contacted DOT and the Citi Bike program and sought advice from other community organizations that had dealt with similar placement questions. The letter also explained how neighbors could make their concerns known.
