In early 2016, residents of East 24th Street raised concerns about a proposed expansion of the New York Comedy Club into adjoining restaurant space. The Gramercy Park Block Association circulated their concerns and joined the discussion at Community Board 6.
Arlene Harrison and Sean Brady attended the board’s Business Affairs and Street Activities Committee meeting on February 25. A March 1 newsletter explained the position the Block Association had supported on behalf of neighbors.
The newsletter reported support for a resolution limiting the adjoining space to restaurant use, without live performances, and with an 11 p.m. closing time. The distinction between a restaurant and a second performance room was central to the discussion.
This was a committee resolution in a licensing process.
