In August 2016, a proposed café and bar in the former Lyric Diner space prompted concerns about the effect on nearby residents. The Gramercy Park Block Association’s Quality of Life Committee gathered the neighborhood’s response.

Committee chair Sean Brady, Arlene Harrison and other neighbors met with the owners on August 25. The Block Association’s subsequent letter described the conversation and the changes the owners agreed to make.

According to the August 30 report, the owners agreed to remove “Bar” from the name and signs, serve alcohol only to seated customers, and close by midnight.

With those commitments, the Block Association supported the application and welcomed the proposed restaurant.

November · A visible follow-through

The November 2016 newsletter reported that Tivoli had removed “Bar” from its sign.
