Construction concerns at 23 Gramercy Park South

During summer 2014, construction at 23 Gramercy Park South affected the neighboring street. The Gramercy Park Block Association’s August 26 report explained that traffic was using the parking lane beside the Park because the usual driving lane was blocked.

A truck struck a street tree in that temporary traffic lane, badly damaging it. NYPD closed the affected area and called the Parks Department, which removed the tree. The agencies also determined that a second leaning tree needed to be removed for safety.

By September, the Block Association was receiving repeated concerns about noise, safety and environmental conditions associated with the project’s geothermal drilling. Its Quality of Life Committee, chaired by Sean Brady, explained how residents could document the time, place and nature of a problem and report it through 311.
