In August 2013, the Gramercy Park Block Association shared information about NYC DOT’s Summer Streets: three Saturdays when nearly seven miles of streets along Park Avenue and connecting routes were opened for walking, cycling and play. Activities were free and intended for different ages and abilities.
The 2013 notice highlighted Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s Voice Tunnel, a light-and-sound installation in the Park Avenue Tunnel. It also directed residents to information about street closures and traffic effects.
The Block Association returned to Summer Streets in August 2016, again alerting neighbors to the car-free Saturdays on Park Avenue South. These notices document the Block Association’s role in connecting residents with a City program; the program was organized by DOT.
