A vigil and a procession
On September 20, 2001, neighbors joined a prayer vigil and candlelight procession from Calvary Church to the Brotherhood Synagogue. A concert vigil at Calvary also remembered those who had died at the World Trade Center.
2002–2003
Memorial concerts on the neighborhood calendar
The 2002 remembrance archive announced a World Trade Center Memorial Concert on Gramercy Park East for September 5. The following year’s report records the annual memorial concert on September 18, 2003, despite warnings about Hurricane Isabel. 2009
Returning to Calvary
Hundreds of Gramercy residents attended the Block Association’s World Trade Center Remembrance Concert at Calvary Church on September 17, 2009.
These musical gatherings belong alongside the 13th Precinct Remembrance Garden, the E-MEN tribute videos and the Block Association’s annual remembrance ceremony. Each preserves a different part of the neighborhood’s response: a shared place, an individual life or a moment of coming together.
