Improving the Park’s irrigation

In his 2016 interview, caretaker Amando Flores recalled the earlier practice of watering the Park by hand. He described irrigation among the systems introduced as the landscape and his responsibilities developed.

The 2018 upgrade

A February 2018 update described work on the pipes and fittings that kept the Park watered: trenches were dug, water lines replaced, pressure increased and spigots redirected.

The Trustees also reported shutting down the irrigation system before freezing weather.

2020

Checking the system before spring watering

The April 16, 2020 Trustees update described Bulfamante Landscaping restarting the irrigation system, checking its heads and testing the lines. Repairs included damage attributed to squirrels. Sidewalk washing was also due to resume.

The system was a change from the hand-watering Amando remembered. Getting it ready for spring still meant checking sprinkler heads, testing water lines and repairing damage.
