A landmark welcomes its neighbors
In September 2023, the Gramercy Park Block Association invited readers to the National Arts Club’s third annual Community Day. The announced program for September 23 brought together public access to the galleries, tours of the Tilden Mansion’s parlors, family art activities and music on the stoop.
The day belonged to the National Arts Club. The Block Association’s role in this record was to help its neighbors discover and take part in the institution’s public cultural life.
Art inside and music outside
The letter highlighted an exhibition of American Impressionism drawn from the Bank of America Collection, family activities, and an outdoor performance by multi-instrumentalist Dennis Lichtman and his band. Mansion tours were free with registration.
The accompanying photographs illustrated the Club’s invitation.
A continuing invitation to culture
An earlier Block Association letter, in December 2021, shared the Club’s free outdoor holiday concert with the Gramercy Brass Quintet on the same stoop. That announcement connected a familiar neighborhood ensemble with another way to experience the landmark.

Holiday music on the stoop
The December 11, 2023 newsletter returned to the Tilden Mansion’s stoop with an invitation to hear the principal quintet of the Gramercy Brass Orchestra on December 18. The advertised holiday program was another outdoor cultural offering shared with the Block Association’s readers.
