Equipment support for Ladder Company 3

A neighborhood relationship helped turn an offer of support into practical equipment for Ladder Company 3. In a report shared by the Gramercy Park Block Association in June 2013, Integro Insurance Brokers and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company awarded the fire company a $5,685 grant, working with the Block Association.

Arlene Harrison had brought the company’s needs to Integro’s attention. The funding came from the insurance partners; the Block Association helped connect them with the local firefighters.

The grant supported rescue-simulation and fitness equipment. The report described a wooden training structure on the firehouse roof, where firefighters could practice rope rescues on a twelve-foot wall.

The equipment was intended to help firefighters prepare for the physical demands of emergency response. It is a historical example of support, not a description of the company’s current equipment or training procedures.

The presentation also commemorated the twelve members of Ladder Company 3 who died on September 11.

That connection runs through the Block Association’s relief work and its remembrance projects.
