In May 2014, the Trustees began replacing the Park’s gravel with finer washed material in neutral tones. The project called for removing the existing surface, grading the ground to improve drainage and applying new gravel.
A follow-up on May 20 reported that the replacement had improved the Park’s appearance. Crews were removing some material and rolling the remaining gravel to make the surface firmer for walking, wheelchairs and strollers.
A January 2017 update returned to the same project, describing the finer gravel installed in 2014 and the work of rolling and raking the paths. The record connects a visible improvement with the less visible upkeep that followed.
