As Gramercy Park marked its 175th anniversary in 2006, the Gramercy Park Block Association sponsored a walking tour led by Dr. Eugene E. Weise. The May 11 newspaper report described hundreds of area residents gathering for a circuit of the neighborhood.
Weise, an ophthalmologist with a deep interest in local history, set out to share stories of the families associated with the surrounding buildings. The walk began at the west gate and ended at Calvary’s parish house, where Tom Pike welcomed the group.
Arlene Harrison thanked Weise and recognized the archival work he and Pike contributed to the Block Association’s preservation efforts. The tour made that knowledge available beyond a committee meeting or a file of research.
The anniversary program also included the June spring concert.
The anniversary continued with a September 26 gathering at The Players. The gathering brought together neighbors and new club members, with Tom Pike speaking about local history.
Harrison and Tara Rockefeller helped organize the occasion. Town & Village publisher Christopher Gilmore Hagedorn received a plaque.
