The Edwin Gould Residence proposal

Young adults leaving foster care without permanent housing were the intended residents of a proposed 52-unit building in East Harlem. The Edwin Gould Residence proposal combined homes with space for social services and programs.

The Gramercy Park Block Association’s July 2002 archive entry credits the Block Association with organizing a partnership among the Edwin Gould Foundation for Children, Edwin Gould Academy and Housing & Services, Inc.

The project flyer names Edwin Gould Academy as sponsor, Housing & Services as developer and property manager, and Thanhauser Esterson Kapell Architects as architect. The accompanying rendering depicts the proposal.

The project flyer describes a July 2002 funding application. It sets out the intended building and its uses, but does not say whether the residence was subsequently built or opened.

The Block Association’s work on the proposal brought together the foundation, the school and the housing organization.
