Building contacts and crime-prevention surveys

In December 2021, the Gramercy Park Block Association described its role as Community Partner to the local NYPD Neighborhood Coordination Officers. The letter introduced the officers as people who could help residents and building staff raise neighborhood concerns.

The Block Association and the officers were developing a building-security network: a plan to link designated contacts in buildings around the Park directly with the NCOs. The purpose was to give emerging concerns a clear route to the people who could address them.

The network was still being developed when the letter appeared.

The same account described work to offer NYPD crime-prevention surveys. These covered cameras, lighting, doors, locks, windows, alarms and other aspects of a building’s security.

The newsletter also shared seasonal package-theft information.

2022

The next year’s priorities

The December 2022 safety letter returned to the direct connections between Neighborhood Coordination Officers and contacts in local buildings. It again described the Block Association’s role as a community partner and its work with officers offering building crime-prevention surveys.
