The Gramercy Park Block Association’s November 2018 community-service record included warm hats, gloves and scarves for the Brotherhood Synagogue’s men’s homeless shelter. The project connected residents’ donations with an established neighborhood institution.
The synagogue also appears in the Block Association’s record of book drives and community gatherings. This shelter collection adds a practical chapter: helping people stay warm, through an organization that could bring the donations directly to its guests.
The Block Association’s Giving Back page describes sponsoring the Brotherhood Synagogue’s men’s shelter and collecting socks as well as scarves, hats and gloves. It records a January–March shelter season. The synagogue operates the shelter; the Block Association mobilizes neighborhood support.
