After the February snowstorm, the Gramercy Park Block Association’s newsletter thanked the Clean Team and the Park staff for their sustained work. While residents stayed indoors, the teams worked rotating schedules to shovel and salt the sidewalks around the Park.

Curb cuts and crosswalks received particular attention. Clearing them made the neighborhood easier to navigate, especially for people with limited mobility.

The letter also described monitoring for ice and re-treating surfaces as temperatures changed. Winter care was not finished with the first pass of a shovel: snow, slush, drainage and refreezing demanded continuing attention.

The work was an example of the seasonal demands behind Clean Streets. In warm weather, those demands include litter, graffiti and streetscape repairs; in winter, they include the conditions that can make a familiar block difficult to cross.

The letter thanked both the Clean Team and the Trustees’ Park staff, whose responsibilities are distinct even when they work alongside one another.
