September 2026 · An update for our neighbors
Dear Neighbors,
On Monday evening, September 21, construction at 38 Gramercy Park continued late into the night, prompting messages from a number of neighbors.
We forwarded your concerns to the developer and asked for a fuller explanation. The team has apologized for the disturbance and provided the following update.
Why the Work Ran Late
The developer reports that several concrete trucks were delayed in traffic associated with the United Nations General Assembly, significantly affecting the day’s schedule. The team explained that certain critical operations, once underway, cannot simply be stopped and require careful evaluation to determine the safest way to complete the work.
Changes to Upcoming Work
To help prevent a recurrence, the developer says it is working with its field team to postpone certain upcoming construction activities until the General Assembly concludes and traffic patterns return to normal. The developer acknowledges that this may affect its schedule but considers it the appropriate step to minimize further disruption to the neighborhood.
The developer has not yet specified which activities will be postponed or provided a revised schedule. We will share confirmed updates as we receive them.
Keeping You Informed
We appreciate the developer’s acknowledgment of the disruption and its willingness to adjust upcoming work. We also understand how frustrating another late night has been, particularly after the overnight work we wrote about in August.
As we noted in last week’s update, the project team has committed to notifying us in advance, or as soon as possible, when after-hours work is likely to disrupt neighbors. We will continue following up on that commitment.
Warmest regards,
Arlene Harrison
