Mail-theft advisory: July 2026

The Gramercy Park Block Association received reports of outgoing mail being stolen from neighborhood collection boxes, including a report of adhesive trapping letters at Lexington Avenue and East 21st Street.

The Block Association contacted the 13th Precinct’s Crime Prevention Officers and shared an advisory with neighbors. Neighbors’ reports helped bring the concern to a wider audience.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service provides mail-theft prevention advice and a reporting page for suspected mail theft. Reports can also be made by calling 1-877-876-2455.

Those official resources provide the appropriate route for reporting postal crime. The Block Association can bring neighborhood concerns to its local contacts, but does not investigate mail theft.
