Two Weekend Street Closures

September 2026  ·  What to expect on East 21st Street

Dear Neighbors,

I want to give you advance notice of work at 38 Gramercy Park that will close East 21st Street over the next two weekends.

When and Where

East 21st Street will be closed from Third Avenue to Gramercy Park under a street closure permit the City has granted to the project.

What the Work Is

Crews will connect the new building to the City water main to establish its permanent water service. The team at the project’s developer has just notified the Block Association of this work.

Planning Ahead

If you are expecting deliveries, a car service, or a pickup on either weekend, please plan for the block to be closed to traffic during work hours, and let your building staff and visitors know in advance.

On Construction Hours

Under City rules, standard construction hours are 7 AM to 6 PM on weekdays; work on evenings and weekends requires an After Hours Variance. In August, I promised to share what we learned about permits for after-hours work at the site. The project team has confirmed to us that they hold these variances from the Department of Buildings for weeknight and weekend work on certain dates. They have also committed to letting the community know in advance, or as soon as possible, whenever after-hours work will close a street or is likely to be disruptive to neighbors.
