Two phases, one continuous streetscape

In May, the Clean Streets team completed the first phase of the 2026 Neighborhood Refresh: repainting and repairing street furniture on the Park-facing side of the streets. By July, the team had carried the work to the sidewalks of buildings facing the Park.

May 2026 · The first phase, in detail

The May 15 progress letter recorded work on the Park-facing side: 41 tree-garden fences, two traffic-control boxes, fifteen litter receptacles, twelve lampposts, eight fire hydrants, six planters and twenty traffic signs. Painting, and repairs where needed, refreshed the fixtures people walk past every day.

At that stage, work on the building-facing sidewalks was beginning. The July letter reported the second phase.

The work behind a well-kept block

The annual Refresh builds on the team’s year-round responsibilities:

  • Sidewalks and curbs: sweeping, litter removal and clearing debris.
  • Tree gardens: cleaning and tending the beds around the 41 street trees.
  • Graffiti and stickers: removing markings and postings from street fixtures.
  • Litter baskets: caring for the baskets and keeping surrounding areas clean.
  • Painting and touch-ups: refreshing lampposts, tree guards and other fixtures.
  • Snow and slush: responding to winter conditions on the sidewalks.
  • Drains: clearing leaves and debris from catch basins during storms and downpours.
