We're delighted to share that this year's Clean Streets neighborhood refresh is now complete.
Update
In May, we completed the first phase — repainting and repairing the street furniture on the Park side — and since then, our Clean Streets Team has carried that same care to the sidewalks of the buildings facing the Park. If the neighborhood is looking especially crisp on your summer walks, that's why.
What the Clean Streets Program Does Year Round
Our work takes place on the streetscape outside the Park's fence — the sidewalks, curbs, tree gardens, and street furniture that frame the Park — while the Park itself is cared for by the Trustees of Gramercy Park. The program provides the extra layer of daily attention that a historic residential neighborhood deserves.
Day in and day out, the Clean Streets Team is at work on:
- Daily sidewalk and curb cleaning — sweeping sidewalks, removing litter, and clearing debris so the blocks around the Park always look cared for.
- Tree garden maintenance — cleaning and tending the tree beds and gardens around the Park, supporting both the beauty and the health of our 41 street trees.
- Graffiti and sticker removal — clearing graffiti, stickers, and illegal postings from lampposts, poles, mailboxes, planters, and fences.
- Litter basket care — keeping public litter baskets and the areas around them clean, and preventing overflow from spreading onto sidewalks and streets.
- Painting and touch-ups — refreshing lampposts, tree guards, and other streetscape fixtures. The annual Neighborhood Refresh is the centerpiece of this work.
- Snow and weather response — clearing snow and slush, keeping drains open, and reducing hazardous buildup during winter storms.
- Drain clearing — removing leaves and debris from catch basins to reduce flooding and standing water — especially welcome during summer downpours.
