This year, Paddy Maguire's Ale House Annual Holiday Toy Drive, supported again by The Gramercy Park Block Association, will take place Sunday, December 16th, 5:00-8:00PM at Paddy Maguire's at 237 Third Avenue (at 20th Street).
Neighbors are asked to bring one new, unwrapped toy, or if you are unable to come, toys can be dropped off with the doorman at 34 Gramercy East (att: Arlene Harrison) by the evening of Sunday, December 16th.
This year the toys will be delivered to 133 children (ages 2-5) at the Escuela Hispana Montessori at 180 Suffolk Street, many of whom had been displaced by flooding from Escuela Hispana's other location at 185 Avenue D.
A couple of weeks ago, at the invitation of City Council Member Rosie Mendez, GPBA President Arlene Harrison visited Escuela Hispana Montessori on the Lower East Side to deliver children's winter clothing including hats, gloves and scarves donated by Gramercy Park neighbors.
According to Harrison, "The teachers and director were so grateful and moved because they thought 'nobody knows how much we are struggling here.' The GPBA then returned to the school with a busload of supplies donated by friends and neighbors, including heaters, air purifiers, new winter clothing for adults and children, new rugs and bedding, books, educational supplies, and holiday decorations."
